Where we would open a laptop
For a short work session, our current local picks are Somos Café, Eat Street and Kooks. We use these because you get WiFi, coffee and food in the same place.
Somos Café
A comfortable option when you want coffee, food and a place where sitting with a laptop feels natural.
Eat Street
Useful when you want something casual and need food while you work. It is not a coworking office, so it suits a shorter session.
Kooks
Kooks Smokehouse and Bar opens at 7 AM, with breakfast until 11 AM. It is the one place on this list with a dedicated coworking space, open Monday to Friday.
Is there a coworking space?
Yes, at Kooks, Monday to Friday. House of Somos also works as a café and workspace during the day. Neither replaces good internet where you sleep if you have daily calls.
WiFi, SIM or eSIM?
WiFi works well in most accommodation, cafés and restaurants. For data while you move around, buy a local SIM or eSIM when you arrive in Costa Rica.
Should you work a full day from a café?
You can, but if you have important calls or work every day, we would not depend only on cafés. Choose accommodation with good internet and a comfortable place to work.
What to ask before booking accommodation
Is the WiFi stable enough for video calls?
Is there a desk or comfortable workspace?
Is there mobile coverage if the internet drops?
Is the room quiet enough for calls?
The setup we would choose
Use your accommodation as the reliable base and cafés for a change of scene. That way rain, noise or a busy café does not decide whether you can work.
