Places we use ourselves
Breakfast is one of our favorite meals to eat out in Santa Teresa. We rotate between cafés depending on whether we want a quick coffee, a proper breakfast, something healthy or a pastry.
Namoré
Specialty coffee, matcha, brunch and pastries. A good option when you want a slower breakfast and something beyond a basic coffee. They also host Namoré Nights, dinners with signature cocktails.
KauKau
Popular with surfers and people working remotely. Matcha, iced coffee, avocado toast and healthy breakfasts, with surfboards at the entrance.
Somos Café
Croissants, brunch and sandwiches in a calm space. It also works well if you want to stay for a while with your laptop.
Anis
Fresh food with bowls, salads, sourdough sandwiches and toasts, with local fish, smoked salmon and several vegetarian options. Good when you want something lighter.
El Patio
An open air café under the palms, with specialty coffee, breakfast, smoothies, açaí bowls and burritos. They do takeaway.
Manta Raya
One of the places we would send someone who wants a more local breakfast, including gallo pinto, plus bowls and fresh juices.
The Bakery
An artisan bakery with butter croissants, pizzas, fresh juices and breakfast options. Easy to recommend if your priority is bread and baked goods.
Gaucha
Croissants, premium pastries and artisan ice cream. Good when breakfast slowly turns into something sweet.
When do cafés open?
Most open early, before the first surf session, and almost all of them roast Costa Rican beans.
What does breakfast cost?
For a full breakfast or brunch at a specialty café, a useful reference is around USD 15 to USD 25 per person. A coffee alone is less.
A small tip from us
Choose cafés near where you are staying. There are good options along the whole main corridor, so you rarely need to cross town for one.
If you need WiFi too, see our cafés for remote work.
